Based on the Zetec-S model the Metal is boosted to 134ps – up from 120ps – and as a result it can sprint to 62mph in just 8.7 seconds.
It will certainly appeal to younger drivers as it boasts sports chrome twin exhaust pipes, silver painted front grille surround, front, rear and side skirts along with front aerofoil and fog light bezels.
It also has a lowered tuned suspension, a rear spoiler and 17-inch Panther Black alloys to confirm its sporting pedigree.
The interior also gets the sporting treatment and the centre stack bezel, air vent rings and door pulls are all finished in piano black while the ebony leather-clad sports seats are finished with contrasting silver stitching.
You also get unique floor mats, a leather steering wheel, alloy pedals, stainless steel door scuff plates and a choice of three exclusive colours.
Its sharp styling is matched by its handling and performance and the Metal will clearly appeal to the younger end of the Fiesta market.
The claimed combined mpg figure is 47.9 but I have to say I didn’t get anywhere near that during the test possibly because the Metal makes you want to drive it with a degree of enthusiasm.
At £15,695 or £16,165 with metallic paint, the Metal is certainly the most expensive Fiesta but it is also the most striking and I don’t think Ford will have trouble in reaching their 1,000 sales target.
