PREMIUM motoring is set to become more affordable when a new Audi model goes on sale later this year.
Set to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the long-awaited A1 hatchback is expected to provide fierce competition in the compact car sector.
Likely to cost around £13,000 when it goes on sale later this year, the German firm's smallest luxury motoring package will make life tougher in the showrooms for similar-size volume models like the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra.
At just under four metres long, the three-door model is small enough to manoeuvre through congested city streets but big enough inside to accommodate four adults and their luggage.
But it will stand out from the crowd with sleek styling, a high-grade interior and high-tech on-board technology, claims the company.
Audi's most space-efficient model will come with 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines and a 1.6-litre turbodiesel motor capable of 72.4mpg with emissions of 102g/km despite having the power to reach 116mph all-out.
Standard features will include alloy wheels, air conditioning, electric front windows and mirrors, remote central locking, a single CD audio system and split folding rear seats, while xenon headlamps with trademark LED daytime running lights will be available at extra cost.
