BRITISH Airways announced annual pre-tax profits of £883m today – but warned it faced a “challenging” year.

The profit figure – almost 45% up on the last year – also triggers a £35m bonus payout for the airline’s 42,000 staff. It is also paying its first dividend since 2001. Chief executive Willie Walsh said he would forego his bonus because of the “very disappointing” opening of Heathrow’s Terminal 5 in March. Read

CAR rental group Avis Europe today warned of rising fleet costs. Read

BRITISH Energy today said it had received a “range of proposals” from several parties wishing to bid for the nuclear power firm.
